Why "John Paul the Great" Print
“John Paul the Great” is a term of respect and affection that we offer to honor Pope John Paul II, a courageous and faithful pope who took a special interest in evangelizing youth and presenting the Gospel to them in a relevant, understandable way.

Pope John Paul II is a wonderful example for all of us of a man who followed Christ every day.  He tried to help us all understand better what our faith is and how we can respond to the modern world while embracing our faith.

He was both modern and traditional.
He was ecumenical and devoutly Catholic.
He was a holy man who could influence world leaders.
He touched countless souls who were blessed to come into contact with him.
He lead the Church to embrace her history and tradition during a time that western civilization turned away from its religious roots.

“The Gospel embraces a fundamental paradox:
    We must lose life in order to find it;
    We must die in order to live;
    We must take up the cross if we want to be saved.
This is the basic truth of the Gospel,
    yet we continue to rebel against it.”

“Even though our faith in the fundamental dignity of the human person
    may be shaken and threatened,
and long-held positions and convictions
    may have hardened our hearts,
there is yet a power that overwhelms
    all deep-seated mistrust, suspicion, or resentment;
it is Jesus Christ,
    who has brought forgiveness and reconciliation to the world.”
