Why is JPGCHS a bilingual school? |
|
John Paul the Great Catholic High School seeks to serve the Catholic Church in the Jasper Deanery. At the request of Bishop Gettelfinger, we seek to be as bilingual as possible.
As it stands today, many of our brothers and sisters in the Church in the Jasper Deanery are from homes that primarily speak Spanish. Just as the Church welcomed German immigrants to Dubois County who embraced their German heritage, so now the Church welcomes any who wish to embrace and live out their heritage among us.
We hope to build a community where all belong and feel welcome, in the sense of being truly “catholic”.
As a bilingual school, we also hope to equip our students for more diverse opportunities as they embark into the world on their own. Uniting the school’s foreign language curriculum under one common language creates opportunities for students to become increasingly familiar with that language and extend their expression of that language into other subjects when appropriate. In this way, the students’ foreign language learning opportunities far surpass what is available in a less progressive school.
